Rashies and swim shirts: find your kind of sun protection

A swim top can have plenty of personality as well as protecting your skin from the elements. At South Beach Boardies, our waterwear includes traditional rashies and a different take on the swim shirt: a relaxed, button-up style.

The names sound similar, so here's a little help finding the one you mean.

Traditional recycled rashies

When we say rashie, we mean a rash-vest style swim top. Our Kids Recycled Rashies are UPF50+ and use fabric made with recycled plastic bottles. They're a starting point for families looking for a traditional swim top in a playful print.

Button-up recycled rashie shirts

Our Men's Recycled Rashie Shirts and Kids Recycled Rashie Shirts are a different product: Cuban-style button-up swim shirts with a relaxed fit, a collar and recycled plastic buttons.

So if you're picturing a button-up shirt for the water, look for “Rashie Shirt” in the product name. If you're looking for the traditional rash-vest shape, browse our rashies.

How do I choose?

Think about the shape you enjoy wearing and the activities you have planned. Check the sleeve length, fit, fabric and any stated UPF rating on the particular product. Those details matter more than choosing by the word “shirt” alone.

For kids, compare measurements with a swim top that fits well. For adults, decide whether you want the relaxed button-up shape or a traditional rashie before choosing a size.

Are Cubano party shirts swim shirts too?

Our Cubano party shirts are a separate clothing range. If you're shopping specifically for a shirt to wear in the water, choose a product described as swimwear rather than assuming every printed shirt does the same job.
